AI "nudify" or "undress" apps take an ordinary, clothed photo — often lifted from social media — and generate a fabricated explicit image of the person in it. The source photo doesn't need to be explicit, or even private; a public profile picture is enough input. The output then circulates on the same forums, image boards, and messaging channels that host other explicit content, usually without any indication that it was AI-generated at all.

Why this is a distinct problem from a leak

Nothing here was ever posted by you, and no original file exists to search for. The starting point was a photo you shared for an entirely different reason, run through a generative model to produce something you never made and never consented to. That's precisely the category the TAKE IT DOWN Act was passed to address — AI-generated intimate imagery depicting a real, identifiable person without consent — rather than a copyright question DMCA was designed for.

How detection finds generated images

Because there's no original URL or caption tying a generated image back to you, detection runs against your face directly. A facial reference built from photos and videos you control is matched continuously against image hosts, forums, and search results — a generated image is caught the same way a genuine leak is, since the underlying face in the output is what triggers a match, not the tool that produced it.

Filing the statutory notice

A confirmed AI-generated image gets filed under the TAKE IT DOWN Act, which carries a mandated 48-hour removal window for covered platforms once a valid notice is submitted — a legal deadline, not a best-effort response time. See our full guide to the Act for what qualifies and why this is the correct legal basis for this specific kind of content, rather than DMCA.

Cutting off distribution, not just the source

Generated images from nudify apps often spread fastest through messaging channels and image-board reposts rather than a single host. De-indexing requests are filed with search engines in parallel with each takedown, and every URL a notice has already gone to stays on a watch list — so if the same image resurfaces on another forum, it's caught on the next scan pass.
