Telegram is a messaging platform, and creator content is redistributed there through channels and groups, often as reposted clips with no mention of your name. Searching your own handle rarely helps, because the post does not have to mention you. Our background piece on how Telegram became a hub for re-uploaded creator content covers how this works.

What Telegram accepts

Telegram's FAQ says copyright complaints go to dmca@telegram.org and apply to public bots, channels, sticker sets and public groups. Private chats are not processed. Other illegal content can be reported to abuse@telegram.org or with the in-app Report button, and users in the EU have a separate form at telegram.org/dsa-report. Neither page states a response time. Because public channels are the reachable part, a link to the specific channel or message is what a notice needs.

Why Telegram is harder than a normal website

A public web page has a URL a search engine can index and a host you can write to. Channels are different: content is shared inside a channel or group, posts can be forwarded, and channels can be recreated under a new name once one is removed. Providers also differ in how much Telegram enforcement they include; some gate it behind their highest tier, so check what a plan covers before relying on it.

How removal works here

  1. Find. Detection matches your face against content it can see, so a repost is recognised even when the caption is unrelated to you.
  2. Report. A DMCA notice is prepared for each piece of content that is a genuine copy of your work and sent to Telegram.
  3. Cut the links. Pages elsewhere that point to a channel can be removed or de-indexed in parallel; see Google Search.
  4. Watch. Removed URLs stay on a watch list so a repost is caught on the next pass.

Whether a channel is taken down is up to Telegram, and success is never guaranteed. Private groups and content that cannot be seen from outside are not something face matching can find.

DMCA for leaks, TAKE IT DOWN for fabrications

A confirmed leak is copyright infringement and goes out as a DMCA notice. A fake of you, including images produced by a "nudify" bot circulating on Telegram, was not copied from anything you made and is filed differently; see nudify apps and Telegram bots and our deepfake removal service. Read the full breakdown of when each applies.

Telegram content often also appears on Reddit and X, on leak aggregators and file hosts such as MEGA. Browse the full list of sites we remove leaks from.
